Can I Refute People while Im Fasting? ? Shaykh Muhammed ibn Hadi al-Madkhali
Questioner: Is there anything that*prohibits*speaking about people under [the subject] of Jarh wal-Tadeel while fasting? Shaykh Muhammed ibn Hadi al-Madkhali: I say yes. The fast prohibits that since speaking about people [is a form] of is backbiting that is permissible due to a benefit – and all praise is due to Allaah, it is not obligatory to speak during the day, so speak at night. As for the daytime, do not speak.
