[006:158] Do they then wait for anything other than that the angels should come to them, or that your Lord (All‚h) should come, or that some of the Signs of your Lord should come (i.e. portents of the Hour, e.g., rising of the sun from the west)! The day that some of the Signs of your Lord do come, no good will it do to a person to believe then, if he believed not before, nor earned good (by performing deeds of righteousness) through his Faith. Say: "Wait you! we (too) are waiting."

[006:159] Verily, those who divide their religion and break up into sects (all kinds of religious sects), you (O Muhammad [sal-All‚hu 'alayhi wa sallam]) have no concern with them in the least. Their affair is only with All‚h, Who then will tell them what they used to do.

[006:160] Whoever brings a good deed (Isl‚mic Monotheism and deeds of obedience to All‚h and His Messenger [sal-All‚hu 'alayhi wa sallam]) shall have ten times the like thereof to his credit, and whoever brings an evil deed (polytheism, disbelief, hypocrisy, and deeds of disobedience to All‚h and His Messenger [sal-All‚hu 'alayhi wa sallam]) shall have only the recompense of the like thereof, and they will not be wronged.

[006:161] Say (O Muhammad [sal-All‚hu 'alayhi wa sallam]): "Truly, my Lord has guided me to a Straight Path, a right religion, the religion of Ibr‚hÓm (Abraham), HanÓfa [i.e. the true Isl‚mic Monotheism Ė to believe in One God (All‚h, i.e. to worship none but All‚h, Alone)] and he was not of Al-MushrikŻn (See V.2:105)."

[006:162] Say (O Muhammad [sal-All‚hu 'alayhi wa sallam]): "Verily, my Sal‚t (prayer), my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for All‚h, the Lord of the '¬lamÓn (mankind, jinn and all that exists).

[006:163] "He has no partner. And of this I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims."

[006:164] Say: "Shall I seek a lord other than All‚h, while He is the Lord of all things? No person earns any (sin) except against himself (only), and no bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, so He will tell you that wherein you have been differing."

[006:165] And it is He Who has made you generations coming after generations, replacing each other on the earth. And He has raised you in ranks, some above others that He may try you in that which He has bestowed on you. Surely, your Lord is Swift in retribution, and certainly He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

A) Narrated Abu Hurairah [radhi-yAll‚hu 'anhu]: All‚h's Messenger [sal-All‚hu 'alayhi wa sallam] said, "The Hour will not be established until the sun rises from the west; and when the people see it, then whoever will be living on the surface of the earth, will have Faith, and that is (the time) when no good will it do to a person to believe then, if he believed not before." (6:158)

[Sahih Al-Bukh‚ri, 6/4635 (O.P.159)]

B) Narrated Abu Hurairah [radhi-yAll‚hu 'anhu]: All‚h's Messenger [sal-All‚hu 'alayhi wa sallam] said, "When the following three signs appear, no good will it do to a person to believe then if he believed not before:

1) Rising of the sun from the west.

2) (The coming of Al-MasÓh) Ad-Dajjal.

3) (The coming out of the) D‚bbat-ul-Ard (i.e. a beast from the earth)."

(Sahih Muslim, The Book of Fitan, The Signs of the coming of the Hour)

C) Narrated Anas [radhi-yAll‚hu 'anhu]: The Prophet [sal-All‚hu 'alayhi wa sallam] said, "No Prophet was sent but that he warned his followers against the one-eyed liar (Al-MasÓh Ad-Dajj‚l). Beware! He is blind in one eye, and your Lord is not so, and there will be written between his (Al-MasÓh Ad-Dajj‚l's) eyes (the word) K‚fir (i.e., disbeliever)." [This HadÓth is also quoted by Abu Hurairah and Ibn 'Abb‚s. [Sahih Al-Bukh‚ri, 9/7131 (O.P.245)]

(V.6:159) It is said that the Prophet [sal-All‚hu 'alayhi wa sallam] recited this Verse and said: "These people are those who invent new things (Bid'ah) in religion and the followers of the vain desires of this Muslim nation, and their repentance will not be accepted by All‚h." (Tafsir Al-Qurtubi)

[It has been narrated in the HadÓth Books (At-Tirmidhi, Ibn M‚jah and Abu D‚wŻd) that the Prophet [sal-All‚hu 'alayhi wa sallam] said: "The Jews and the Christians will be divided into seventy-one or seventy-two religious sects and this nation will be divided into seventy-three religious sects, all in Hell, except one, and that one is: on which I and my Companions are today, i.e. following the Qur'‚n and the Prophet's Sunnah (legal ways, orders, acts of worship, statements)."]

(V.6:160) See the footnote of (V.6:61).
