In the Name of All‚h, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

[112:001] Say (O Muhammad [sal-All‚hu 'alayhi wa sallam]): "He is All‚h, (the) One.

[112:002] All‚h-us-Samad [All‚h Ė the Self-Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need, (He neither eats nor drinks)].

[112:003] He begets not, nor was He begotten.

[112:004] And there is none coequal or comparable to Him."

(V.112:1) See TauhÓd in the Glossary (Appendix-I).

A) Narrated Mu'‚dh bin Jabal [radhi-yAll‚hu 'anhu]: The Prophet [sal-All‚hu 'alayhi wa sallam] said, "O Mu'‚dh! Do you know what All‚h's Right upon His slaves is?" I said, "All‚h and His Messenger know better." The Prophet [sal-All‚hu 'alayhi wa sallam] said, "To worship Him (All‚h) Alone and to join none in worship with Him (All‚h). Do you know what their right upon Him is?" I replied, "All‚h and His Messenger know better." The Prophet [sal-All‚hu 'alayhi wa sallam] said, "Not to punish them (if they did so)." [Sahih Al-Bukhari, 9/7373 (O.P.470)]

B) Narrated Abu Sa'Ód Al-KhudrÓ [radhi-yAll‚hu 'anhu]: A man heard another man reciting: 'Say (O Muhammad): "He is All‚h, (the) One." (112:1) And he recited it repeatedly. When it was morning, he went to the Prophet [sal-All‚hu 'alayhi wa sallam] and informed him about that as if he considered that the recitation of that SŻrah by itself was not enough. All‚h's Messenger [sal-All‚hu 'alayhi wa sallam] said, "By Him in Whose Hand my soul is, it is equal to one-third of the Qur'‚n." [Sahih Al-Bukhari, 9/7374 (O.P.471)]

C) Narrated 'Aishah [radhi-yAll‚hu 'anhaa]: The Prophet [sal-All‚hu 'alayhi wa sallam] sent (an army unit) under the command of a man who used to lead his companions in the prayers and would finish his recitation with (the SŻrah 112): 'Say (O Muhammad): "He is All‚h, (the) One."' (112:1). When they returned (from the battle), they mentioned that to the Prophet . He said (to them), "Ask him why he does so." They asked him and he said, "I do so because it mentions the Qualities of the Most Gracious and I love to recite it (in my prayer)." The Prophet [sal-All‚hu 'alayhi wa sallam] said (to them). "Tell him that All‚h loves him."

[Sahih Al-Bukhari, 9/7375 (O.P.472)]
